What SCAEOP means to me both personally and professionally: SCAEOP is not just an amazing organization that promotes professional growth and merit, SCAEOP is my extended family. Throughout the years, I have developed not only a professional network with individuals from across South Carolina to enhance my skills to become a more effective and efficient office professional, I have also established informal relationships with individuals that are genuinely concerned about me as a person. During the loss of my mother in law, my husband and I were deeply touched from the overwhelming displays of concern and prayers that were expressed by SCAEOP. I am passionate about SCAEOP and believe that we create a positive impact on the lives of every office professional we meet. I love being a part of the great SCAEOP family and look forward to advancing in the organization to be able make a greater impact by touching the lives of office professionals across the globe to help them to understand that they are essential tools designed to empower the path of everyone they come in contact with. SCAEOP Committees/Offices served on in the last 5 years: Chaplain; Vice President
Honors and Awards: Game On Award March 2016 at Richland Northeast HS;
Leadership Experience: During my presidency of our local association RCAEOP, I really grew as a leader. I had to find my voice and develop as a leader. I realized that I wanted to be a leader that wanted an inclusive voice of all members. I wanted to share my enthusiasm and knowledge with everyone. I wanted to make sure that everyone was well informed and included in every discussion and decision made to the best of my ability with the wisdom and help of the board that I served on. I recognized that there isn’t an “I” in team and that it takes input from everyone to be the best association. I really enjoyed my fellowship with everyone as the president because it allowed me to have relationships that not only benefited me professionally but personally. It definitely was a challenge, but anything that makes you work hard makes you better and stronger.
What SCAEOP means to me both personally and professionally: Professionally, SCAEOP has allowed opportunities to participate and receive training on various applications and topics. I enjoy networking and learning new ideas from other Office Professionals. I think it is important to connect outside of my comfort zone or work place to be able to grow. There is so much wisdom and knowledge amongst the office professionals and I am glad to have an association to tap into. Personally, SCAEOP is a great way for me to connect to other professionals that can relate to me. They understand the challenges that I may have at work as well as balancing life.
A few words about my personal life: I am a wife to Ramone Jackson and a mother of two intelligent and handsome young men, Marzell (college student) and Myles Jackson (sophomore in High School). I enjoy spending time with my family and working with my church family. I enjoy shopping (especially when I find a great deal), going to the beach and sewing. Recently, I have been really trying to get physically fit by working out and taking long walks.

Honors and Awards: BMS Staff Person of the Year 2014-15; PSP/CEOE July 2017
Leadership Experience: In the 2 years that I have been an office professional, I have served as the SCAEOP District Liaison for Richland District Two. In July 2017, I was the committee chair for the 2017 NAEOP conference Flag Ceremony, a member of the Celebration of Life committee and a member of the AV team. For the upcoming 2018 SCAEOP Conference, I will be a member of the AV team.
What SCAEOP means to me both personally and professionally: SCAEOP has grown me personally through the lifelong friendships I have made in the organization and building my confidence to step out of my comfort zone and meet new people. The encouragement that I received from these ladies sparked a new vision for me and what I wanted to do as an office professional. With the encouragement and support of the leaders and members of SCAEOP, I received my PSP/CEOE in July 2017.
A few words about my personal life: I am currently in my 11th year at Blythewood Middle School, where I have worn many hats. This year is my third year as the Student Data Coordinator. My husband, Clay, and I have lived in the Northeast Columbia area for 17 years. We have 2 wonderful children. Cody (19) is a sophomore at Clemson University majoring in Graphic Communications. Our daughter Kylie (17) is in her junior year at Blythewood High School. She plans to attend Clemson University or Lander University and major in nursing. Bella, our dog, has been a member of our family for 6 years. She is like our third child. I love taking pictures and crafting. My friends say that I am a Pinterest guru

Nominees for Area 6 Director

Gervonder R. Brown
Employer: Fairfield County School District
Current Position: Executive Assistant to the Superintendent/Board Clerk
Professional Associations: iDAP, 6 years and Fairfield County AEOP; SCAEOP, 3 years; NAEOP, 1 year
NAEOP PSP Program: No CEOE: No
SCAEOP Annual Conferences attended in the last 5 years: 3
NAEOP Annual Conferences attended in the last 5 years: 1
SCAEOP Committees/Offices served on in the last 5 years: District Liaison Fairfield County
Leadership Experience: I have been the District Coordinator for the Elite Ladies of Fairfield County School District, a mentoring initiative for young ladies in grades 7-12. I create and coordinate a calendar of events, transformation sessions, and service projects for over 150 participants and 26 mentors for three schools. In addition, I help coordinate the schedule and activities for the District’s Annual Convocation program – where we welcome all of our District employees at the beginning of the school year. This year, I included vendors and lunch for the employees through 12 food trucks. Next, for the past four years I coordinated an Annual Angel Tree program for the homeless students in our District to ensure they have a joyful and memorable Christmas. Lastly, as the President of the Fairfield County AEOP I coordinate all professional development trainings and have also provided workshops on time management and professionalism in the workplace. I also spoke to all the Principals and Administration during the budgeting process to include funds in their budget for membership and professional development for their staff.
What SCAEOP means to me both personally and professionally: Wow! SCAEOP has changed me as an individual both personally and professionally. I remember when I was initially approached to be a part of it, there was no appeal to be a part, because I thought it was an organization for older people. But once I came to the first annual conference and learned more about the organization, I felt empowered to know that an organization existed that supports me professionally and allowed me to gleam and network with other professionals. It also exposed me to the national organization through the conference in July 2017. This lit a fire in me and I came back inspired and charged to make the Fairfield AEOP a standout organization. I created the website, applied for a tax id and changed the format of an existing program for our District Office Professionals. I met with my boss, Superintendent of Schools and sold him on our vision and then met with his Administration and expressed to them the difference this association made in my life and why they want to make sure their staff gets plugged in!
A few words about my personal life: I am the Geechee-Gullah daughter of Gerod & Eartha Brown where I am the oldest of three siblings and auntie of two, Kaylee and Gabby! I am from Charleston home of red rice, chewies, shrimp and grits and blue crabs (well any seafood)! I am a storyteller and educator on the Geechee-Gullah people of the Sea Islands through my business Island Gal, where I travel throughout the state educating people on the language, traditions and customs of my people. Next, I am a host/facilitator for special events in and outside of the District. Through the Elite Ladies of Fairfield County School District, I am the Step Team Coordinator and Lead on our annual Cotillion Ball. Lastly, I am the choir director for the Jr. Vessels of Praise, a member of the Special Events Team and a Praise and Worship Leader at my church, Full Gospel Word & Worship Center.
