November 2021 - Chelsea Hubbard is an Attendance Clerk/Guidance Secretary in Orangeburg County School District. Chelsea has worked in education for eleven years and is one of our newest SCAEOP members. She is eager to learn more about SCAEOP and the Professional Standards Program. She was introduced to SCAEOP by our very own president, Mrs. Mary Beth Bowers, and Lillian Watson. She decided to join SCAEOP because she thinks it “seems like a great organization.”

September 2021 - Laurie Cannon, CEOE is the administrative assistant/bookkeeper at Lake Carolina Elementary School in Richland School District 2 and is the current treasurer of SCAEOP. Laurie has worked in education for 10 years and has been a member of SCAEOP for 7 years. Laurie has been married to her husband, Frank for 30 years and they have a daughter who is a junior at USC and another daughter and son-in-law that live in Michigan. Laurie enjoys reading, shopping, going to the beach and baking carrot cake. Her favorite book is “Anything” by Mary Kay Andrews and she loves to travel to Disney World. If Laurie won the lottery, she would buy a house on the beach for spring, summer and fall living, but in the winter, she would work at the Christmas Shop in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Laurie says if she was given a superlative in high school, it would have been most loyal. Lastly, an interesting fact people may not about Laurie is that she was a college cheerleader at Coastal Carolina when they were a branch of the University of South Carolina.

July 2021 - Jessica Thompson serves as an Administrative Assistant at Blythewood Academy in Richland School District Two. Jessica has worked in education for five years and has been a member of SCAEOP for the past two years. Jessica loves to write and enjoys reading suspense filled books. She loves to be anywhere near the water and treasures the time she spends with her 12 “kids” (better known as her nieces and nephews). Jessica says her favorite thing about SCAEOP is the opportunity to network with other educational office professionals as well as the growth she receives from the resources that she receives as a result of her SCAEOP membership. Jessica also recently attended the NAEOP conference in Pittsburgh. Jessica, we are proud to have you as a part of SCAEOP.

May 2021 - Geneva Wing is the Administrative Assistant for the Guidance Department at Whale Branch Early College High School in Beaufort County. Geneva has worked in education for five years and has been a member of SCAEOP for three years. She loves singing, reading The Bible, and traveling to Jamaica. Her favorite thing to cook is shrimp stew. Geneva says that if she were to win the lottery the first thing she would do is pay off her student debt. Geneva’s favorite thing about being a member of SCAEOP is the camaraderie she has built with office professionals from across the state. She believes that if you are an educational office professional in your school/district office you should definitely join SCAEOP and take advantage of every opportunity of professional growth.

March 2021 - Deneitra Jackson is the Administrative Assistant for Pupil Services in Richland School District 2. Deneitra has worked in education for 12 years and has been a member of SCAEOP for two years. She enjoys reading and her favorite book is “Everyone Communicates, Few Connect” by John Maxwell. Her favorite place to travel is Cocoa Beach, Florida and she enjoys baking peach cobbler. If Deneitra were to win the lottery she would save and help the less fortunate. Deneitra has a daughter majoring in Electrical Engineering at Clemson University. If Deneitra had received a senior superlative in high school it would have been “Friendliest” – which may explain why she is a truly genuine and caring person. Deneitra was also very instrumental in playing a part to promote SCAEOP’s first feminine product drive to support our community service project, The Homeless Period Project. She and her colleague, Roxanna Cubero, held a drive in their department shortly after the HPP was introduced at our annual conference. As a result of their efforts, they were able to collect 2,048 pads, 2,048 liners, 585 tampons, and $75 in cash donations to assist with purchase supplies. Way to go Deneitra!!!

I obtained my Certified Educational Office Employee (CEOE) distinction in 2016. During this time, I have had great mentors who have encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and grow professionally and personally by taking on new challenges. I am so humbled and honored to have been chosen as RCAEOP & SCAEOP’s Office Professional of the Year for 2020-2021. It is my goal to encourage and inspire other RCAEOP & SCAEOP members to do the same.
